A2A How can you fix a RAM slot on a PC motherboard that doesn’t recognize RAM sticks? Assuming the other slots recognize RAM ok, and assuming the RAM that you are trying to insert in the bad RAM slot works fine in other slots, then the problem is. Check to make sure your memory is oriented the right direction. Make sure if you have more than two slots the RAM is installed in slots of matching color – on a quad channel this is usually 1 & 3 or 2 & 4. If there is only one memory card and it is in the top slot, remove the top memory card before installing RAM in the bottom slot. There were risers in the 80s that could expand one slot into 2 or 4 slots, but there's no reason for this with modern PCs since 2gb (and even 4gb) dimms are available. Are there any 2 gig ddr2 dual. In task manager for win8, i see that memory says slots used 1 out of 4, which is currently 4 GB, but when i opened my laptop i can only see two. It also says slot 1: empty; slot 2: empty; slot 3: 4.0 GB,1333 MHz; slot 4: empty. Most motherboards have 2 or 4 RAM slots. RAM sockets are typically located near the CPU, though their location may vary depending on the manufacturer or model. Refer to your motherboard’s layout diagram in your documentation if you are having difficulty locating the sockets.

3 (3 banks of 1) This indicates that there are 3 memory slots. These are divided into 3 banks, and each bank consists of one memory slot. So you can add memory one piece at a time for the system to use.
4 (2 banks of 2) This indicates that there are 4 memory slots. These are divided into 2 banks, and each bank consists of two memory slots. So you must add memory two pieces at a time (they must be the same size and type of memory) in order for the system to benefit from the upgrade.
