MGM announced just some of its measures last week, which will echo those put in place in Macau back in March. They will include divided partitions between slot machines and blackjack players, a reduced number of guests (up to ¾ in the case of the Bellagio), and a whole army of cleaning staff working round-the-clock.

On top of all that, MGM, Caesars, and Boyd recently announced they were partnering up to regularly test all of their employees from May 21^st until the end of the local epidemic in Vegas.

With the capacity to test up to 10,000 a day at the Vegas Convention Center, testing will be available for all employees, and results will be returned in 48 hours or less.

“This testing partnership will allow us to provide our employees and guests peace of mind that we are taking the greatest possible precautions to keep them safe,” said Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and President of MGM Resorts International.

A More Resilient Future

Other areas of the USA are already opening up their casinos, and some lawmakers have been battling loophole laws that have allowed “skill” games to continue operating in smaller venues throughout the pandemic.

Some casinos in Louisiana and Mississippi have already reopened, such as L’Auberge and The Golden Nugget in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Despite the extra precautions and safety measures, some gamblers reportedly drove over 140 miles from Texas and other states to get their first slice of casino floor action since the beginning of March. Others were seen queuing outside the casinos for their 9 am opening.

MGM and Boyd Gaming will also open some of its casinos in those states in a staggered reopening spread out over the next two weeks.

'While the amenities our customers have come to know and love may be somewhat limited for the time being, the ability to safely welcome back our team members and guests remains our top priority. With this in mind, we have been working closely with the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, state and local leaders, and public health officials to finalize comprehensive Phase I reopening protocols and new health and safety precautions. Our returning team members will be trained on these procedures and our guests will see reminder signage about them throughout the property. These new protocols include, but are not limited to, the following:

Social Distancing

We will limit capacity on our gaming floor to no more than 50% and disable 25% of our gaming positions.
The installation of floor decals and signage to strictly enforce social distancing guidelines in areas where lines typically form.
Table game seating will be limited, and every other slot machine will be disabled.
Live music, entertainment, and banquet services will remain suspended.
There will be no large drawings, tournaments, or special events.
Bayou Market Express is open.
Bayou Market on the Geaux is open with five, staffed stations of Boomtown Favorites.
Asia is open.
Pier 4, Boomers, and the Gift Shop will remain closed.

Health & Safety

Team members will be required to wear masks and will undergo a health screening each day, including temperature checks, prior to their shift.
Guests and vendors will be required to have their temperature checked before entering the property and will be encouraged to wear masks.
Slot machines and table games will be thoroughly and regularly cleaned throughout the day.
Sanitizer stations will be installed on the casino floor and be readily available throughout the facility.
The property will close from 5 a.m. – 8 a.m. every day, during which time we will deploy a fog machine to disinfect and sanitize the property.
